Dear Jami,
Your 5th birthday was a blast today. I was at EZShield all day looking forward to coming home to your birthday excitement. You are growing into the most beautiful woman and I couldn’t wait to come home and celebrate you.
Your birthday means the world to me: you are a sign of hope in my life. Before you were born, I needed hope, and when you came out screaming and yelling it was the best noise I ever heard. Today you got cowgirl boots, cowgirl hat and a new barbie bike. This bike has 16inch tires; a big girl bike.
This weekend you have Maggie coming over for the weekend and your first Dairy Queen party with friends. Mom is going all out for you.
Highlights of your 4th year:
- You really learned how to ride your strawberry shortcake bike this year (which is why you got an upgrade for your birthday)
- You can now do a perfect somersault
- We saw you draw your first person in the beginning of the year; and you exploded this year in what you can draw. You can even look at still life and draw what you see now. And you taught yourself it all.
- This was the year of Frozen. Everything is Elsa and Anna.
- We love dance parties and you love “1234” by Feist and dancing with Dad as he lifts you up acting out the whole video.
- “Shake it Off” by Taylor Swift is your second favorite dance song.
- Your favorite foods are powdered donuts, clams and chocolate milk.
- You can dress yourself.
- You help Dad find things he lost around the house.
- You LOVE being outside.
- You started to sleep in (7:30)
- You still don’t really like U2 that much; this is something Dad is committed to working on.
- You are in Pre-K at CSY and will be attending Kindergarden this coming year at Hayshire
- We bought you season passes with Grandma to go to Dutch Wonderland. You went almost every week over the summer and just loved it.
- Gramma is your best friend, then Kayden, then Ethan. But you and Kaden act more like brother and sister than great friends.
- You did Grammy camp with Maggie this summer for two nights; you had a blast.
Your birthday song
This song came out right around the time you were born; and it was divinely timed. This is the start, this is your heart, this is the day you were born. These are the scars, deep in your heart, this is the place you were born. And I am always yours. Every breath is a second chance.
Everytime this song comes on my itunes when I drive into work I’m a weeping train wreak. I get so moved thinking about what God gave me through you.
This is the start, this is your heart
This is the day you were born
This is the sun, these are your lungs
This is the day you were bornAnd I am always yours
These are the scars deep in your heart
This is the place you were born
This is the hole where most of your soul comes ripping out
From the places you’ve been tornAnd it is always yours
But I am always yoursHallelujah, I’m caving in
Hallelujah, I’m in love again
Hallelujah, I’m a wretched man
Hallelujah, every breath is a second chanceAnd it is always yours
And I am always yoursAlways, by Switchfoot
I am here Jami, and will always be: to celebrate you, to walk with you in this broken world and to rejoice at all that life has to offer.
I will always be yours.
Love, Dad
